Medical tasking in the mountains.

Whilst serving in the British forces and being deployed overseas as a combat medic, the dream tasking landed. To be a medic and provide medical care for adventurous training packages aimed to test soldiers by putting them through their comfort zones via the exposure to controlled risk.

Due to having the mountain leader training and rock climbing supervisor qualifications, opportunity to lead groups as well as provide medical care is a possibility.

The first trek was yesterday, 8 hours long over 10 miles. Limited communication, remote, arduous terrain and a hot dry climate, all whilst carrying a 15kg medical pack. A total medical nightmare should the need of a medical evacuation arise.

The group management was on point, making sure the pace wasn’t to fast that people became exhausted, making sure students was spotted whilst climbing down boulders and moderate scrambling steps. Making sure plenty of water was carried with electrolytes to limit the risk of dehydration.

Overall it was a pleasant trek, tomorrow I’m going to be double hatting as a medic and instructor, so will have an even greater responsibility.

Look forward to hearing how it went.
